A history of the S.S. Prometheus

Every year, we enter the local FRC Bayou Regional.  Our first year, we won Rookie All-Star, enabling us to go to Nationals where we ranked 24th in our division (out of 87 teams).  The following year, we won 1st place at Bayou Regional, enabling us to go to Nationals again where we ranked 12th in our division.  In 2011, we made it to the quarterfinals of Bayou Regionals before being defeated.  In our most recent season, we lasted all the way until the finals and additionally won the Industrial Design Award.  Our 2013 season is currently under way, so be sure to look for updates on our news page!

“Prometheus” vs “S.S. Prometheus”

You may notice in older pictures and older websites a slightly different color scheme than our modern blue & white.  This is because for our first two seasons we went by the moniker of  “Prometheus” and had a theme based around Greek mythology and the origin of fire.  At the request of our school the following year, we adopted our local school mascot: the skipper.  Gone was all the fire-themed memorabilia and in came the water-themed memorabilia. From our assessment, it did not serve our image well to have forgone our older reputation that season, and after much heated internal debate, we debuted our 2012 season as “The S.S. Prometheus”, a nice combination of our two previous mascots.  It may not satisfy everyone, but it’s a name that we’ll proudly live by and that we will continue to carry to success!
